Pro. Der-Wen Chang, Tamkang University, Taiwan
Research Area:
Numerical Modeling, Deep Foundations, Soil-Structure Interactions, Geotechnical Earthquake Engineering, Soil Dynamics
Research Experience:
Prof. Der-Wen Chang received his PhD from the University of Texas at Austin in 1991. Since then he is the faculty member of Geotechnical Engineering program at the Department of Civil Engineering of Tamkang University, Taiwan. He has conducted research studies on 1. Non-destructive testing (e.g., Falling Weight Deflectometer, Dynaflect, and SASW test) on pavements, 2. Time-domain damping model from frequency-dependent damping ratios, 3. Wave equation analyses of piles subjected to static and dynamic loads of the superstructure and the seismic loads from ground motions, 4. Vertical and horizontal load distributions of grouped piles from dynamic pile-to-pile interactions, 5. Performance Based Seismic design (PBSD) on piles following the PBEE analysis and reliability method, 6. 3D piled raft foundation analyses for static and dynamic loads using finite difference schemes. More than 200 research papers have been published by Prof. Chang. Prof. Chang is currently the member of Editorial Board at Soils and Foundations, (published by JGS) Geotechnical Engineering (published by SEAGS & AGSSEA), J. of GeoEngineering (published by CTGS), ISSMGE Bulletin. Also serve as the committee member of ISSMGE TC212, TC305 and ATC18. He is now the Chairman of Conference Committee who helps to organize The 16th Asian Regional Conf. on Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering held in Taipei Taiwan on October 14-18, 2019. Was the Secretary General at Taiwan Geotechnical Society (TGS) who helped TGS to join ISSMGE with the name of Chinese Taipei Geotechnical Society in 2010-2011.
